Re: No dig potatoes
Have you tried making your own compost?
Yes first year you need lots 6 inches but following years only an inch is needed.

Re: No dig potatoes
"remember that potatos need earthing up as they grow"
Earthing up is not always necessary, I have grown spuds without earthing up.
Check out Charles Dowding How to grow potatoes without digging

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs - 2021.
Thinking the current power failure and a electric car does not go together.
Another thought how good is an electric car during floods, I hear the battery is weakened when temperature is below freezing.

Re: Late Autumn Bits and Bobs.
Yes they do Primrose, bigger problem is finding how it got onto the plot and into the tunnel. It's been on the plot off & on since the summer just cannot find how it is getting in.

Re: Late Autumn Bits and Bobs.
Welcome Mr Fallowfield "I’m very interested to hear if any one has a good method of growing no dig potatoes ." I have planted spuds 4ins deep then covered with straw, 2 years running work ok but does encourage slugs though. Charles Dowding has a video showing planting through plastic which...

Re: Stored heat for tunnel.
Looking at Charles Dowding video comparing greenhouse and poly tunnel which seemed to imply not a lot of heat is retained in polytunnel. I know he does hot bed composting in the greenhouse not sure if in poly tunnel, perhaps you could give it a try.

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs - 2021.
HI Primrose had this suggestion from Charles Dowding "If you have any empty beds and want to sow a green manure (cover crop), I suggest white mustard. It's great for no dig because of being killed by frosts in winter."

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs - 2021.
Had this information in my inbox "Winter grown broad beans are the best quality, but you can also sow them again in Spring for the Autumn, as well as Autumn for Spring"
Did not know you could grow them for Autumn as well.

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs - 2021.
Talking to a fellow plot holder who has had poor customer service again from a big supplier, so is looking to use local garden centre.
It seems the large suppliers offer a guarantee but sadly do not stand by it.

Re: Tasty Garlic
I selected large cloves and put them in a sealed jar ready for planting, when I opened the jar was hit with the pleasant smell of garlic so perhaps all is not lost. Been cooking with them and find it is hit & miss, red ones seem to be the best. Had delivery of & planted the Italian ones so l...
