Might I suggest going to see for what price the local garden centre sells jams and preserves (a common section at least where I live). Then if it's £2.95, I suggest £1.95 or 2.00 for instance -- always less, but don't under-price!

These are the variety that I will grow to offer at this summer's local village fete -- to give children the activity to repot and take away. They're perfect for kids - good in containers, determinate habit, small and very prolific. I'm not sure kids will be too choosy about the flavour. I hope you w...

Heavily overcast and chilly in S Oxfordshire. Not inspiring here as where you all were. But still managed to get a few things done.

Would that be reel-to-reel tape by any chance? Only kidding!

Peter Seabrook's son has an allotment next to mine... but I have to admit I'd never heard of him (before my time...in the UK). Alan's my fav (and I saw him on the IoW a couple years back just being a real person!) Monty is good too.

OK, thanks. Swollen stems is the key. I shall assume the same applies to swedes, kohl rabi and others too.

Ground cover

I recently bought a large roll of 4 meter wide by 100m (a but of an overkill, but I needed more than 50m) from N A Kays: http://www.kaysdiscountgarden.co.uk/ Good selection, good service, and no extra shipping costs over a certain total £. It went to cover my allotment to suppress the annual weeds p...

I grow 25-30 varieties to sell. In past years I have sold nearly 500 plants! One school teacher buys 24 for her end-of-year present to her girls. Another man buys 24-36 tomato plants every year, too (along with 36 courgettes and 12 cucumbers and 8 squash and pumpkin!). But all the rest are sold road...

Sowing beetroot in modules?

I've only recently heard people talk about sowing beetroots in modules before planting out. Now why does it work with beets but not carrots and parsnips? I'm confused!

How big a module and how big can you let them grow before transplanting, please?

Staging

I too agree about Two Wests & Elliot - I have bought staging, shelving and a heated bench from them and highly recommend them. One good thing is that the staging comes in a wide variety of widths and lengths -- and for a bit more, they will make them taller than the standard, too. This is especi...

Shed

My shed is from a neighbor who was discarding two sheds in his garden. I asked the neighboring plotholder to help me and my other half to assemble it and we all now share it. I did paint the outside red three years back, but for curtains I intentionally avoided chintz and put up hessian! Looks just ...

Mine digs my potato trenches (the potatoes become his then!) and digs my compost holes for the squashes (Buttercup!), pumpkins and courgettes. Plus, he runs the borrowed rotovator at the start of the season, and putters around and tidies the compost bins. He hates to admit it, but he enjoys it at ti...
