Re: A P(l)otted History part2, Aug 2015 onward
The breakfast looks delicious PaSnip. I think I'd have wanted a nap after eating all that have you got a sofa bed in your shed?. no, but the guy on an adjacent plot to me has, couldn't believe it when I saw it. As for the energy levels, by 6.40pm last night I knew I had overdone it on the plot. For...

Re: Define 'Working the Plot'
hi robo, thanks for a very interesting reply. 85% area cultivation makes good sense to me. We can have beehives but not chickens or other livestock Sheds are supposed to be no bigger than 7ft x 5ft and no more than one shed on a plot. No greenhouses are allowed. Both of these rules have been ignored...

Define 'Working the Plot'
Our allotment site is controlled by our local council. Surprisingly for a local council the tenancy agreements contain minimal rules and regulations. One of these is that plots must be 'Worked', however there is no definition of just how much constitutes 'worked'. The council can, and does rarely, s...

Most important part of this reply first> Yes Primrose black pudding it is. Food critics welcome any time, just let me know they're coming as food not held in stock. Shed too small for freezer You are right, the compost would have broken down some more over winter, would have still needed the sieve t...

Re: A P(l)otted History part2, Aug 2015 onward
Of course all this work takes energy, and I am still short on that so where do we get energy from....food. Having arrived on plot at 08:40am, 11am seemed a good time for breakfast for myself and a neighbouring plotholder. We had made this arrangement last night So on went the stove in my shed, and I...

Simple compost bins but effective, breakdown is generally good as per this bin shown here. I had some raised beds which needed topping up so I decided to dig out one of the existing compost bins and sieve contents into a wheelbarrow. Re: A P(l)otted History part2, Aug 2015 onward
Well there hasn't been any posts on here for a while, mainly because the effects of my last treatment session meant I have done nothing on the plot for weeks. The weeds therefore groweth in abundance. However its time to get on, I've had my last treatment session and beginning to get some energy and...

Re: Dog roses: good or bad?
Hi Barry My reply is just a thought, it certainly isn't based on personal experience with dog roses. My thought is that it is not uncommon to see dog roses on plots or gardens that are worked. Surely they can be pruned back regularly to keep growth above ground under control. If the dog rose is in a...

Re: Connecting water butts
Drilling these larger sized holes must be a problem for a lot people... so come on waterbutt companies put an extra hole in the top, with a bung in it. morning OH Many of the water butts are designed with a overflow point on, still needs drilling out though although some have just a thinner membran...

Re: Flu jab.
Like all of you I have heard the horror stories, but then isn't that typical. We hear of the bad side of things but rarely do people publicise the good side.
Now having said that, I have never had, and will never have, a flu jab thank you.

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs.
Today (Tues 13th Oct) I awoke wondering if the November issue of KG is ever going to turn up. My subscription is due in two months, could be a race as to which happens first. Taking it as a serious matter, I also noticed that the Oct issue (217) never appeared as a advert on the forum opening page. ...

Live Long and Prosper, NOOOO not an ad for your pensions
Totally off the board / forum subjects, just something we did yesterday to get a break from gardening. Apologies if it's subject or length meets with disapproval. Planes don't normally interest me, but I enjoy and admire the historical ones and the skill of the Red Arrows.. We had arrived before 12n...
