To re-iterate my original point here.

What you find if you look up carpets on google is a wealth of American Carpet Cleaning Firms, who are trying to terrify people into steam cleaning their carpets. Such nonsense as (paraphrased) "all sorts of contaminants in the air outdoors get on your clothes and end up in your carpet", so...

I think it's a cunning plan to get more people to buy the magazine. Kind regards Old Herbaceous. Theres no fool like an old fool. It had been bugging me, you know, that lingering feeling that Mr PH looked strangely familiar under that helmet and cape . Now I know they were a disguise, its the Cunni...

childrens book to have?[/quote] Something to stretch them a little, he says hopefully. Reading ages, Potter is probably ahead of the "Sun" which has a reading age of five, but read Pratchetts childrens books and enjoy not being written down to. As a child I had gone through all of my fath...

Mr PH, how large are your figs? I ask because next years figs will be on the tree now(ish) as diddy ones. Brown Turkey changed colour somewhat from bright green to aquiring a reddy-brown flush, which was when my Dad used to pick his. They were the size of a large hens egg I think. I think Dad used t...

When I lived with my parents we kept a dozen Marans at the bottom of the garden, their run was about the size of my current back garden. When I mowed I usually put some or all of the lawn mowings in the hen run. They attacked it with enjoyment when it was fresh, but subsequently just scratched aroun...

Oh I do hope that happens, the Librarian, Vimes, Lord Vetanari and Carrot should sort the little idiot out.
Also if Pratchett got involved that standard of english used will soar from its current lamentably low reading age.

I was so enjoying the mental stimulation of composing a considered reply to your question I almost didn't read the rider.

Even more basic, do you have a rotovator?
If so do a mulch as Vivie suggests and rotovate it in periodically.
Hens will enjoy fresh lawn mowings in quantity and will keep stirring it about, if you rotovate half their run every month or so they will go potty for the freshly turned soil. :D

Allan, I'm sorry, but I now have an unshiftable mental image of you as the "old seadog" played by Tom Baker in "Black Adder II", who derided Edmund Blackadder's every choice and appendage as "You have a womans <insert item under discussion here> my lord". "Here is ...

Car magazine, and Men At Arms by Terry Pratchett.

One for OH from a different Pratchett.

When I saw the link on the list in General Chatter, I thought this was going to be another heated discussion about keeping whitefly off your carrots! Now, if one's concerned about wastage, one could always use the SAS method... Oh Mr Potato Head, what a sheltered life you must have lead to think yo...
