Re: Post approval
I really don't see why kg subscribers should wait for approval, they need their subscription id number to join and it would be simple to get hold of their name and address if they misbehaved in any way. Just a thought. Jan Just the way the magazine has set up the forum, no distinguishing difference...

Allotment Association Shop Supplier's.
We got some bad news last week. The supplier we've used for years is shutting down later this year. We've been buying a three ton lorryload of mixed stuff. Three different compost/growbags, bagged manure, granular fertiliser, lime, canes, weed membrane, seed potatoes, etc Asked if they had a competi...

Re: Sowing Peas and germination
Could it be the compost you're using? Our Allotment Association has found that the peat-free composts are somewhat variable, we can't get peat based composts any more. Principally when sowing seeds, some things that people never had problems with were not germinating well and in some cases not at al...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Finally last night we had some decent rain, the terrace plant pot "saucers" were full of water at 8am, looking forward to finally being able to plant out my squash seedling without them shrivelling up. Allotment hasn't seen any measurable quantity of rain for weeks..... forecast, didn't ar...

Well manicured lawns are good for songbirds, less cover for predators and easier to get the creepy-crawlies & worms.

Re: Long awaited Spring Bits and Bobs…
Two things bother me about composting as related to peatfree composts. How well,or poorly, is the matter composted, have had bags of GP compost opened and be full of live fungi. Allied to that what is the input to the process, is it domestic green waste bins or, more likely, commercially sourced Eas...

Re: Products I've liked
Oafs eh? Think you've described them rather well Primrose. My husband yesterday experimented with making a lentil oaf to use up a surplus of rather ageing lentils. It was so stodgy and solid and highly indigestible. Definitely not a success. Even the magpies are urning up their beaks at the chopped ...

Beetle used to be the name for a large wooden hammer, used to hammer fence posts in, I was hoping a mallet was going begging.
