Idea with these is to use them as small raised beds. Either sigle or stacked. To stack you'll need a drill and some nuts/bolts, three per layer probably. Drill three holes rond the first tyre, then through the holes use a wax crayon to mark the second tyre, drill its holes and bolt them together. He...

Neighbour, both plot and home, told me Saturday he had got forty pounds of goosebrries off his bushes this year :!:
Everyone has had tons of strawbs, the rsapberries are romping and the blackcurrants are festooned.

Bumper year for soft fruit perchance?

Yes, agree, they seem to be on the increase again round here, especially in fallow fields. I take it your plot or garden is amoungst fields?

On target I think.

Whenever I chop mine my fingers stick together with the juice and I was thinking "garlic flakes, ah chop garlic then dry" then "oh sticky stuff".

I presume now that the shrinkage means slices of clove quite thick?

What other stuff Onions, the leaves will fall over as one and start to die off. Provided the weather is good leave them to get on with it and the outer skin of the bulb will turn brown and papery, that is when to harvest them, remember there are alot of roots under the bulb though, a trowel can be u...

On a sunny day, taking a rest from hard work, lying on my back on "my" path between my two plots, hidden by my plants and watching the swifts, swallows and martins wheeling and swooping far above, little sickles of black animated against the azure blue backdrop. Harvesting the fruits on on...

Favourite Gardening Book?

Garden Design by Kenneth Midgley, a Penguin Handbook. Fiction, what has stayed with me for many years from childhood, probably "Brendon Chase" by BB. Was adapted for ITV some time ago I think. 1920's Village Doctors three sons left in the care on an ancient and disliked great aunt abscond ...

Happymouse, ripped mine out Thursday as it was flowering, eaten at the size of a small oakleaf is best.
However even at the size I binned you can strip the new/smaller leaves up near the flowers. The smell of rocket is just so gorgeous, rich uuummmm. :D

Will be sowing some more this weekend I hope.

Un-equal tomato progress.

The tomatoes I ground planted in the greenhouse look a bit tall and etiolated, no flowers. The ones I potted and have not yet growbagged are stocky and have lots of flowers. I know the ones in pots are very confined, 3" pots, stood in a holeless tray for a sort of hydroponic effect. So why no f...

Sorry Tigger.

No quip, I cannot wear my favourite bright yellow T-shirt for gardening as it gets covered in bugs, the little black beetles found in daffodils adore it.
