Re: Steve Ott’s Green Reality Check

You are repeating the usual organic argument - they compare working with high organic content addition with working with no organic addition. Pragmatic cultivation is keeping the organic content high and not paying over the odds for blood, fish and bone or other organic fertilisers when using pellet...

I have difficulty with the idea that you don't want organic matter to break down in the soil, surely it has to break down to release its nutrients to the plants?

Re: Re-newing your car insurance

I usually trawl round the brokers that masquerade as price comparison sites (legislation needed!) then try and sort out the silly quotes, most take no account of the variables I have set, then go to a few companies direct and finally ring my existing company and usually get a deal to stick with them.

Re: where to buy good quality fruit trees?

We've had good service of quality trees from http://www.jaspertrees.co.uk/

My wife was given a leaving present of a Quince tree from RV Roger - if I had paid for it I would have sent it straight back, as it was we struggled with it for three years before we bought a replacement from Paul Jasper that overtook it in a season.

NAVAL HISTORY LESSON

It was necessary to keep a good supply of cannon balls near the cannon on old war ships. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck was a major problem. The best storage method devised was to stack them as a square based pyramid, with one ball on top, resting on four, resting on nine, which...

Regret didn't recognise it as an Orang Utan but rather an Orange Monkey Suit! I agree Orangs are wonderful.

This might get complicated as I am not totally sure of the best way - I have Photoshop and modify the images with that. Did you get Photoshop Elements with your camera, you can do it with that. If you go to User Control Panel, Profile, Edit Avatar you will find it tells you the size of file you are ...

Re: Cabbage whites

I wouldn't believe the organic gardening nasturtium myth if I was you. I'm picking dozens of caterpillars a day off my greens and the nearby distracting nasturtiums are untouched. They are even attacking my Swedes this year, I know they are the same family but they don't usually bother them. Must in...

I sharpen my blades and haven't bought a new set yet. If you grow Sweet Corn they are fun to shred. I agree that Raspberry canes are easy and for a short while the compost smells wonderful unlike when I do the Brussels.

Agree about the rubber slugs as I call them - need a knife to despatch them as a boot often fails.
