Re: A view of my garden

I like experimenting and it's interesting that your bean has survived, but I grow as few things as possible in ways that rely on me for watering them unless they can tolerate drought conditions. Even my indoor plants get neglected at times. Dealing with a half acre garden mainly on my own is a bit o...

Re: Late Summer Bit and Bobs.

Just had a look at the November issue and liked the sound of the Carrot, seed and spelt rolls, unfortunately it doesn't mention how much carrot to put in it, in fact it doesn't mention carrot at all.

Could K.G. give us the full recipe please?

Re: Late Summer Bit and Bobs.

Mine came this week Westi, and I must admit I've not finished reading the October one yet. There were some good articles in it and I've tried a few of the recipes. Very handy reminders about preserving your crops. Looking forward to reading the new one.

Mine has been odd too, messages vanishing without being sent. Glad it isn't my computer at fault.

Re: Late Summer Bit and Bobs.

I don't usually grow over wintering onions so can't help with that Geoff. I've been busy as well today. It's been lovely and sunny with a cold .wind. I've picked a bucketfull of tomatoes and peppers and picked 8 1/2 lb of grapes. We've got a gallon of apple juice fermenting for cider. A proper harve...

Re: Here I am again!

Nice to hear from you again Alan, I wondered where you had got to. I'm glad you've someone to share the gardening with and glad you're back in action. Gardening is wonderfully therapeutic in so many ways. Your poly tunnel sounds great and a good way to restrict what you grow. I always have too much ...

Re: Late Summer Bit and Bobs.

I've had our heating on a couple of times this week too Primrose, no point in putting up with being cold because it's not October yet, even though that is my aim too. Thanks for the warning about the birds eating your grapes I'd better check mine today. The wasps got them last year. I'm going to pic...

Re: Late Summer Bit and Bobs.

After nearly a month's worth of rain since yesterday lunch time the hen run has pools of water in all the hollows the hens have made for dust baths. I'll have to get some ducks. The wind doesn't seem to have caused any damage apart from blowing a lot of apples and pears off. At least the sun is out ...

Yes Geoff, I got stocked up with a few things at the spring show. Can't go wrong for a pound and they're good quality seeds.

Re: Late Summer Bit and Bobs.

The bees like dry sandy/stony soil. If they put a nice thick layer of manure on it the bees wouldn't find the texture so attractive. Shame to make them homeless though.

They don't look like any edible ones I've seen. Be extremely cautious even if you think you know what they are, even experts have accidentally poisoned themselves.

Re: Late Summer Bit and Bobs.

I've found two tubs of grape juice in the freezer and it's very nice. I've not checked my grapes for a week, so hope they're still ok. They needed to ripen up a bit more when I tasted them. I might make wine from them this year as we've drunk all the 2015 batch. I've two gallons of red currant and w...
