Re: Please can we have some more 'funnies'?

Talk at the pub of the report that the Queen does carry money - a neatly folded £5 note in her purse. I jokingly commented that I wondered how she managed to fold it, called in the Royal Tank Regiment perhaps? Someone said "Oh, she doesn't carry it to spend, just as a means of identification&qu...

Thanks for that item, Primrose. What a terrific video that is, fascinating to watch, especially the visit to the loo!

Re: Lack of fungal diseases on trees and top fruit

Hi Westi, Every other year, once the leaves have gone from my Bramley tree, I spray with Amillotox. I've found it pretty good at keeping the tree free of disease and it's said to be good against honey fungus. It's been a terrific year for apples and also my quince tree. I give the quinces away and a...

Re: Wasps in loft

A friend has suggested that next year I put a fake nest in the loft, the theory being that new wasps will see it and go away. Any one tried a fake nest - does it work? I see on the internet you can buy these, or make one yourself, though it looks to be a messy task using a balloon, wallpaper paste a...

Re: Wasps in loft

Thank you for advice. I'll wait till they're in bed and give them a dose of spray- but not near their exit under the tiles into the garden, I don't want to stop them getting out and drive them into looking for another exit, perhaps into the house!. We've got cavity wall insulation so I don't think t...

Wasps in loft

I've just discovered a large nest in our loft space, with wasps buzzing about. They don't come in the house unless we leave the hatch open, so is it best to leave it? Will they be dying off in the next few weeks, leaving the nest empty for removal?

Sprouting spuds

Had quite a good crop of main crop spuds (Desiree), but a lot of them have started sprouting underground, with long, (1-3") white tendrils. This has never happened before and the Earlies (Pentland Javelin) in the adjacent plot have been OK. I've rubbed the sprouts off, but will this affect stor...

Re: Ripening blackcurrants

Looking forward to picking a good crop of blackcurrants, but not the long, pernickety job of preparing them for eating and freezing. Can anyone suggest any way one can use them without topping and tailing? All I can think of is just crushing the juice out and throwing the rest away. Thanks.

Y're getting grumpy in y're old age, PS. Perhaps VDP has been away for a week - if he's like me the last thing he takes with him is the Internet.

Tb: I'd have handed her an empty bowl and said "Thank you so much, when you've finished just put half of them in my bowl".
Trouble is you might have lost the bowl as well!

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2018

We've had really good strawberries this year, but my parsnips haven't sprouted at all! Leeks, pots, peas, beans and beetroot all doing well. Age is catching up with me (85 next month) so I had a professional gardener/friend come in, mow the back lawn and do some hedge trimming. Pic enclosed - first ...

No, PP, they're still at it, but not all the time. Here's a pic of part of the board - how they manage to hang on upside down I don't know!
