Re: Rug not laying flat

Thank you all for suggestions, not keen on sticking it to laminated floor though.

At the moment putting the raised bit under settee to prevent tripping.

Been enjoying Calabres/Broccoli, Broadbeans, spring onions, lettuce, beetroot, Strawberries, Chilies & Basil.

Have pulled onions & garlic for drying and maybe pull up spuds latter this week.

Had first red tomato so gave it to Er indoors to sample.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Bees swarming is a pain for me... neighbor at bottom of garden has bees and when they swarm next door it is time to get indoors until they clear off. Couple of years ago was enjoying the garden when the wife got stung a couple of times and I got stung on ring finger, had to do a 36 mile round trip t...

Re: Polytunnel Guttering

Would have guttering on slant at ground lever of tunnel that would drain into a large bucket or something similar to collect the water. Then use a bilge pump to transfer the water collected to the main reservoir for the soaker hose either manually or automatically using unit with alto sensor. Altern...

Re: Using tea bags in the compost bin

Interesting information from your link Geoff. It states "What does “plant-based” mean? We're replacing the oil-based plastic that seals our tea bags with a plant-based plastic called polylactic acid, or PLA." So they are making plastic from plants now. Check out this link for which can be ...

Re: Using water collars

I use these in greenhouse bed 2ft x 10ft with homemade compost,

Been using them this way for a few years now, collars never retain the water for long.

Using water collars

Filled the water collars around the tomatoes a couple just let the water pour out the bottom.

Assume you fill them up to top and let them drain in their own time.

What would cause one to empty quicker than another?

Re: Non peat based composts

Very interesting post JohnB. Have to say I have had mixed success/failures this year and thought it was due to compost so tried different type, but suspect it is more to do with weather/temps & my impatience to get them growing early. The chilli growing guide I have suggest 50/50 coir/compost mi...
