Re: Pumpkin flavour recommendations please?

Sally reminded me of a special occasion on my gap year in France when my host had taken the biggest Turks Turban squash I have ever seen and had cut the turban downwards to make a lid then hollowed out the bottom section and filled with a fruit salad which was superb and that was on Saturday night a...

Re: Growing a Christmas tree from a cutting

Hi Liam,
The Norwegian Spruce Tree is the traditional Christmas Tree can be grown from a semi-mature cuttings taken during July and August but the chances of getting a worthwhile Christmas Tree are slim. Norwegian Spruce grown for Christmas Tree production are grown from seed.

Re: Pa Snip Enterprise: A questionable start

I would keep quiet about using Jeyes Fluid as a soil sterilizer because it is against the law to use it. It is no longer licenced as soil sterilant.

Re: F1 Seed

Hi Shallotman It is quite simple to have a succession of F1 cabbages by simply not sowing them all at the same time and there are very few open pollinated varieties the can match the the vibrancy of an F1 hybrid. Having said that I still grow the open pollinated pointed cabbages myself and no longer...

Re: French bean Cobra

Hi Tony, May I enquire if you save your own Cobra seed? When you sow several varieties of French beans and although they are self fertile it could be that they produce hybrid seeds which can reduce the strain. Fresh seed each year from a reputable seedhouse to me is must with not only French varieti...

Re: Moths - lack of

Hi Monika, Stream-lining I think not. It may cut a few out but I very often do an 80 mile round journey and I go through mainly very rural meadow and woodland and these insects simply are not about. Theories are fine but theories have to be proven. My house doesn't have streamline windows and on a b...

Hi OH, I haven't noticed a decrease in bat activity but to be honest I haven't been looking. I have three different species of bats here two in my loft, pipistrelle and long eared, and daubenton in the barn. I need something to distract me at present as I have managed to break my left arm and can't ...

Re: Moths - lack of

When I moved here nearing 40 years ago night driving was nightmare because of the flying insects and on say a 50 mile journey at night you would have to stop and physically clean the windscreen and today I can do the same journey without even stopping. Perhaps we did have too many night insects then...

Re: Egg Shells for Calcium

The best way to dry eggshells is in a tray at the bottom of your oven and when heated and allowed to cool they are easier to crush. You can go the whole hog and put the crushed particles through a blender and this gives a coarse kind of flour and this is best added in small quantities to each layer ...

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs - 2017.

I do have an estate behind my place and we get plenty of Pheasants that take over on my place in the belt of Maize that I grow for them. Occasionally we do get a few in the the veg plot and as Monika says they can be thugs. As a matter of priciple I neither shoot or eat Pheasants as if you study tha...

Re: Hard day at work?

Hi Peter,
Originally I put the website that you have kindly supplied but the video was missing so I had to quickly make an amendment. What I got was a different version altogether which I do not understand.
I am truly thankful for your kind assistance.
Sincerely,
JB
