Re: Visiting suggestions

There's a clue in the name of this area of the forum, General Chatter.

Most misused area is Technical Data, no one seems to read the description indicating what is meant to be posted in there.

Re: Broadforks

Sure he isn't confusing a potato fork with a digging fork?
Potato lifting fork had flattened tines, flat at the front with a shallow V for the back.
Bit like touching both thumbs and index fingers together without bending any.

Railways and allotments

The two seem to be inextricably linked.
Just seen a popular and well tended site as my Virgin Train from Euston was zipping north near Leighton Buzzard.

Every train line I visit for the first time I see allotments.

(Delayed) Spring 2018

Yes it is late arriving to stay, but the snowdrops, daffodils and catkins gave been and gone. Here in eastern Hertfordshire we're thinking of trialing the; Fred Splatt method of potato planting. Set out a straight line on your plot Put seed potatoes in a trug. Wearing wellies walk the line with shor...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

OH's optimism seems you have deserted him this year!
We are on British Summer Time, yet no "Early Spring 2018" thread yet, not even s "Delayed Spring 2018."
So I'll start one myself!

Re: Visiting suggestions

If 300 steps don't present an issue Malham Cove can be climbed, if not viewed from below, but on a clear day the view from the limestone pavement on top is spectacular.

Re: road repair

Needs a deeper hole dug, but hardcore blinded with crush then vibrated will get found a more resistant surface. Bur as Geoff says, edge control is vital, timber will rot, my local council did a tarmac 2.5m cycle/foot path and edged it with steel strip.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Didn't look too bad early on, Sunday routine Allotments Society shop duty, then shopping, was raining when I left Sainsbury's. :( However, after that fairly heavy and prolonged shower it calmed down a fair bit. With intermittent light showers and thus no power tools, I have finished framing both sid...
