MyHermes
I've been waiting for an incubator which I've bought on ebay and which was being delivered by MyHermes.I bought it on 27th Sept. It was shipped on 3rd Oct and MyHermes 'attempted' to deliver it on 8th Sept. Since then the seller has been chasing them and given me several dates for delivery but nothi...

Re: Ready for the spring!!!
I was pulling your leg but you can't hear the inflection in my voice online, so that's the last time I do that - sorry.

Re: No dig course
I'm SO glad I actually recommended his book on winter veg. It wasn't only the no dig but the way in which he prepared for winter harvests and analysed them. It's so much easier to start sowing in spring and then think - 'well that's done'. Then come the gluts and we end up in the autumn with a plot ...

Re: Scandalous or what!
I'm a fan of Sarpo Axona. It grows well in any weathers, has broken up heavy clay for me, keeps very well, is impervious to blight and produces big tubers which are easy to peel and make super mash. I'm not about to change to something which is untried. I'm not a particular fan of expensive seed mer...

Started on indoor sowing today - broad beans in root trainers - tomatoes, peppers and lettuce. Feel a lot better having made a start.

Re: Magazine
Sorted problem. My husband didn't recognise the direct debit and so cancelled it!! It's just taken effect this year and I've started missing my magazine. I've done another direct debit order. Also got back issue of Feb. I think he's feeling suitably badly about it - not said much, but i don't think ...

Re: Car Wash
We get a lot of East European people doing car washes in our area. I wondered if car washes are franchised. I admire the work ethic of those that do car washing because it is hard work, not very pleasant conditions and probably not highly paid. I sometimes wonder why English people out of work are n...

Re: Serotonin in cooked tomatoes
Isn't it nice when you find you have done something right!! -accidentally. I had a glut of tomatoes and made them into tomato sauce/ketchup and have a cupboard full of jars which I have been using in all my cooking this winter.

Re: Supermarket tomato's
When we were young my mother kept spare butter etc in a food safe down an old air raid shelter. I hated being asked to go and get it - down a flight of steps and into the dark with spiders etc! The milk was put in a saucepan of cold water which was periodically renewed during the day. My grandmother...

Henhouse material can be very strong. You don't find it burns the rhubarb, do you?

Re: It's marmalade time again
On setting marmalade - use preserving sugar - less boiling time needed and so you get a lighter colour and fresher taste. If you like the heavy taste and dark colour from long boiling, DON'T use preserving sugar!! A bottle of Certo is always a useful standby and usually works. I don't do my marmalad...

New approach to rhubarb
I've tried something new with my rhubarb this year. I always let the frost and cold weather get at the crowns in the first part of the winter - done that just the same. Then I usually pile manure over it and a few buckets over the first patch to emerge above the manure to get some really sweet force...
