Look at the size of this!

One of my Spanish tomatoes. This was a seedling that was growing in my neighbour's compost heap so no idea of variety. It weighed 551gms and tasted delish.

Re: Planting out Swedes

I sowed my Swede seeds (Best of All) on May 16th individually into cells. Planted out June 9th. They are now developing lovely healthy leaves. I always start my veggies (except parsnips and carrots) off in cells as it is easier to control the moisture out here in Spain.

Re: Growing shop-bought tomatoes

Back in March I bought some lovely juicy tomatoes from our local Spanish market. I needed to grow these! So I sliced one of the tomatoes into 4 slices, placed on top of compost, lightly covered with more compost and now hey presto I have 16 very healthy looking plants to put out when I can find the ...

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.

Very jealous! Must have been sooo hot in your tunnels lately. Mine reached 106F recently. What variety of tomato is that? The toms are Golden Sunrise. I also have Red Cherry, Black Cherry, Moneymaker, Roma and some Spanish seedlings that popped up in my Spanish neighbour's compost that he gave me. ...

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.

Oh for cooler weather - but not for me until end of September lol. Didn't have to worry about excessive heat when I lived in the UK. Talking of the UK I used to take KG magazine there too and our garden (Brick Kiln Cottage) was featured over 6 pages in the magazine. April/may 1993 I think. I still h...

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.

No they are not hot tunnels Steve. They are shady tunnels made from fine green netting. I have 2 tall ones that I can stand up in for tall crops like tomatoes and runner beans and 2 others for shorter crops that I sort of duck my head under. They work very well and even filter the wind that blows ac...

Re: Newbie

Many thanks for the welcome. I will try and upload some pics when I've worked out how to do it. My main battles here are the intense heat and watering. I have made shady tunnels over my veggie beds and they seem to be working!

Newbie

Hi. I am Linda and I live in Spain. I have been gardening for 7 years over here. It has taken that long to get the white gypsum type soil into good enough heart to grow my veggies. Lots and lots of home made compost and horse, chicken and donkey poo having been dug in. This year looks like it will b...
