Carrots, what carrots?
Last year I was quite successful growing carrots in buckets with Nantes. This year I've sown Chantenay Red on 17th April and as yet nothing. Should I abandon them and start again ?

Re: onions
Thanks for the encouragement Westi. My biggest problem at the moment is wind (not mine!). The potato tops to my mind are huge and getting bashed about somewhat. I just hope that there is something growing down below in the buckets.

Re: onions
Thanks Westi. I've now chucked 'em. I'm very much a raw beginner to veg growing.

Re: Fish, blood and bone
Thanks for your replies, I wonder that the best thing for my situation could be either Phostrogen or Miracle -Gro. Any thoughts on which may be more suitable ?

Re: Fish, blood and bone
I should have added that all my veg's are grown in 3 gallon buckets so there's little or no space to spread powdered fertiliser about.

Phostrogen
I've just found some old Phostrogen in the back of the garage which has gone a bit lumpy presumably due to damp. I can break it up but will it still be safe to use ?

Re: New patch
Thanks for your replies. I've taken the plunge and dug the remaining sand in. After being under the flags for so long the soil is compacted so it's going to take time to get it better. The only thing that I've decided up to now is runner beans at the rear of the patch against a South facing brick wa...

New patch
Hi everyone new bloke here, I'm planning to make a veg patch of about 6'x 6'. For the last umpteen years the area has been covered with concrete flags. I've lifted these and found that the soil which looks OK has a thin layer of builders sand spread on it. My question to you experts is is does all t...
