Re: 2018 growing season

I sowed Crimson Crush but the seedlings got cooked on a hot day with the lid still on the propagator, I will try again this year.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Bought my seed tatties today, will sort out some egg boxes ready for chitting them, was also given a big bag of daffodil bulbs for free and got some sweetcorn and butternut squash seeds half price, nice way to end a days shopping(preferable to dragging round Dundee anyway).

Re: Chickens

Different breeds lay different coloured eggs, I was assured by a commercial chicken farmer years ago they are all the same and all taste the same, but folk don't want to know that. I've never kept any, but I would keep birds that laid different colours if I did, even though it's what they eat that c...

Re: Chase Organics

I guess as tatties are quite a hungry crop you would have to feed the bags in order to get a decent crop, when I grew in grow bags a couple of years back I had 2 seeds in and the crop wasn't great.

Re: Chase Organics

I've used Dobies seeds for decades and I haven't noticed any change since Suttons took them over, maybe it will be similar with CO?(I did hear that some folk at CO have had redundancy notice though)

They are now just showing through the compost, at least I now know the seed is viable(I bought them for last year and didn't use them all)

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs....

I don't grow enough to keep us going all year, I never really intended too, I grow the stuff that tastes better than anything from a shop, so Sweet Corn pulled from the plant and eaten immediately , raw whilst sat in the greenhouse is a taste you will never get from buying a cob of corn. Same with t...

Re: More moles stories.

Those large vibrators(steady) that you stick in the ground to frighten moles away are a serious waste of money, I actually stuck one into a run and the moles just pushed it out of the ground.

I'd be tempted to put raised beds on top of the area and grow fruit and veg.
