Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

I like home made marmalade and buy locally, same for jam when available.

Notice this lasts longer than shop brought stuff (took pot of supermarket jam back because it went green) any idea why.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Like your tips for Robins & wren as both are about. A Wren flew into inside the shed it was so small and was the first one I have ever seen live.

Thanks for the offer Geoff but I will probably buy a made up one for this year.

"There's the sense of satisfaction and achievement when harvesting, there's a certain air of tranquillity that means problems seem to disappear for a while at least and there's a general sense of wellbeing despite any medical prognosis."

You are spot on PA Snip.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Just had a cracking day collecting seaweed with another allotment holder, we got 3 builder bags full one each and a spare one for a friend. It was knee deep and there was loads of it, if only we had access to trailer and tractor/4x4. Off to check seaweed threads on this forum for best way of using it.

"at that price buy your veg in the shops" If this was applied thinking then the only time some people would leave the house is to go shopping. Since I have taken up growing my own it has got me out in the fresh air most days of the week. I have met some great people who have freely given m...

Re: Chase Organics

"Something is not right there Colin would you put five sets in a one feet square planter sounds a bit tight"

That is what the suppliers are saying to do when they sell their growing sets...Are they be misleading?

Re: Decision made!

Westi, don’t think it would be good time to erect it at the moment as very windy here which I assume is same where you are.

Rowbow "the local tip was going to charge me to tip the glass, so that went in the black bin" all lands up in same place without the extra cost out of your pocket.

Re: Chase Organics

Seems planting in crowded bags will give more yield unless the spuds are smaller than those planted in the ground. The calulation was for first earlies and your planting guidelines are the same as others I have read. This is what is being marketed Pack Contents: 3 Gro-Sacks + 5 Tubers of Each Variet...

Re: Chase Organics

Interesting site PA Snip with a Tattie calculator so I put my 4ft x 4ft bed in the calculator and got 8 spuds needed. Last year I got a 2 growbag sets (from different companies) with 3 bags & 15 spuds = 5 spuds per bag. I could probably get 9+ grow bags on 4 x 4 ft bed which would give 45 spuds ...
