Sticky Willies aka Cleavers

Our garden is absolutely full of these and they are sprouting quite well currently. They are edible so I thought I’d have a root around for some recipes to use them in given I’m going to try and pull most of them up. Sticky Willie Water Recipe - not the most appealing name. Seems quite straightforwa...

Re: Mycorrhizal Fungae

I have grown, from seed from the seed swap shop, thank you to the gentleman who send me a starter pack of seeds, several different types to see how I get on with them this year. I’m pleased to say all young plants are looking very robust even without the use of mycorrhizal fungi and despite a greenf...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

I’ve yet to sort the beds that the PSB and peas have to go in and was considering putting them in the flower bed. Good to know they can go into big pots Westi. Might try that instead. My Papa used to soak the peas in paraffin. Not sure how that affects the plant but even then some would get eaten by...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

Primrose, acupuncture is really good for arthritic knees. Search the British Acupuncture Council website for a properly qualified acu near you. I see a lot of pre-replacement knees and keep the pain at bay until they get the op. That’s what we thought at first Primrose but when we tried the flap we ...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

Day after I planted some seeds in the new cloches…. Hailstones…. Honestly! It’s deffo taken a turn to the chilly side here recently. As an aside… came home after 3hrs out to find someone had tried our key safe by the back door… the downside of having nothing but fields behind you. Anything in the ni...

Re: Flies in meshed raised bed

Had this recently in a holiday house but with ladybirds… the heating had been put on for the first time and there were tons of them emerging from hibernation. I wonder if that has what happened with you? You’ve put enviromesh over the area which has warmed it up quickly and all the flies that were h...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

What a glorious day up here. Spent quite a high proportion of the day in the garden, sooooooo nice to be able to do that again. Was counting it out and it was nearly 10yrs of no garden… pugatory! the local chain garden centre has mini cloches on sale for £14.00 so I bought one to see and am quite im...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

Then I went on another mixed site to see "Electroculture" is the next big thing. I little bit more suspicious of this one as find it hard to believe a copper wire wrapped around a stick in the ground would make too much of a charge to see any impact & like all these new ideas detail v...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

Was really pleased it’s started to dry up a little here but then hubby emptied out my containers of rainwater and now I’m praying for rain to fill them up again lol. Had 4 days in Whitby and boy has the garden grown when I came back. The bush full of little buds has sprung into life and is full of w...

Re: NHS Dentists in Scotland?

I agree Colin. It’s a very practical job that requires hands on training. Specialisms may require the degree route. They changed my old nursing vocation to a degree qualification and I have seen it degrade the work that is done. Students come to clinic and don’t want to get their hands dirty, litera...

White fluff

I put some of my houseplants outside when we moved last year, all excited about having a garden and the weather being lovely, I thought they’d appreciate it. The issue is I have not got an infestation of greenfly and some tiny white fluffy thing that doesn’t seem to move but congregates on one leaf ...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

I can’t believe how wet this spring is. I sincerely hope it improves soon. I refuse to go out in a soggy wet garden to get rained on. Might have to try a vertical planting system in the conservatory at this rate.

I’ve noticed that Vivienz. I don’t remember having to work so hard to keep my seeds in moist but not wet compost. they seem to dry out ever so quick.

LOL OH.

I suspect Stravaig is on the button though.

I’m currently locked out of my uni account because of one of those blasted updates. Seemingly I don’t’ exist anymore. Microsh.. oft, always something when they do an update.
