Didn’t realise this was such an old thread… I hope Chantal’s wrens survived.

Re: What a dawn chorus.
Having just moved back to the countryside I was pleased at the change in noise. The spuggies are particularly rowdy. However, it’s listening to the doos in the am that I love, takes me back to my childhood. Chantal can you put a little ledge in with maybe a little walkway to a hole that they could g...

Re: Village idiots
Ah Westi. Reminds me of an article I read where in some cultures, neurodivergent people are thought of as special as they have a link to the world in a way we cannot. When I worked in Cambridge there were quite a few people who had fallen through the cracks and one was an elderly gentleman with obvi...

Re: NHS Dentists in Scotland?
Council tax included water in Wales iirc from when I lived there. I wouldn’t say we’re more civilised up here and you definitely don’t get more for your money. Work harder and try and improve your lot and useless will have it taxed off you in a jiffy so he can pretend we have a parliament rather tha...

Re: Ivy, Spiders, poop and Birds
Thanks guys, it has grown between slabs and the neighbours living room wall so no way to dig it out without lifting the slabs, which I’m not keen to do. Will try drilling and glycophosphate. If not then it might be a case of just pulling off new shoots until the roots get the idea and die. My Dad wa...

Yes, I saw that Westi. It is correct Robo, it came out in our industry newsletter (veterinary). Anyone who keeps backyard chooks, regardless of numbers will now have to register with DEFRA. This is a change from the over 50 chooks rule. So even just one chook will see you having to register. https:/...

Re: NHS Dentists in Scotland?
Same as the rest of the UK I expect. We’ve just moved to yearly check-ups in Scotland, is that the same down south? We were lucky to find a dentist accepting NHS patients in the middle of the central belt, hopefully you can find one out west, you might just have to travel a little. We’ve now moved 4...

Ivy, Spiders, poop and Birds
Just reclaimed our first piece of ivy covered wall. OMG, think I’ll get a face mask for the next piece, it is amazing what amasses behind the twisted stems. Between spider webs, some very annoyed (and humongous) spiders that looked like they were still in hibernation mode, lots of sleepy staggers aw...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
A beautiful day up here yesterday, got all excited and popped some seeds in. Tatties nearly ready for planting mid April. Definitely puts a spring in the step, no pun intended.

Re: Leek seedlings
I had them with a light OH to combat the low light levels. They’re also in root trainers so hopefully their root systems are doing well. An article I saw on the web says they thicken up better with a bit of wind so I put them outside for a bit today to get some wind through their hair so to speak. G...

Leek seedlings
How big should leek seedlings be at this point? I planted them beginning of Jan and they’re still tiny little things but quite tall, about 3inches. At what point should they start fattening out a little?

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Oh no. Wee thing, it can make them very reactive. Hope she settles ok and no lasting damage. It’s still quite cold up here so not preparing any beds yet. Need to get a riddle for the garden so can get some of the wood mulch out of the beds before I plant anything. Have decided the raised beds will g...

If you haven’t bought yet, then arrive early and do a general reccie. Having bought in Scotland twice in the last 9yrs after living down south, I’d like to say it’s easier but it is just as big a pain in the bum as it is anywhere else. One thing is we still have the home report up here so it’s a bas...

Indeed but it’s far easier browsing them all in one place than playing search engine bingo until you get all the correct letters in the correct order to find what exactly you are looking for.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
It is sad that forums aren’t as popular as before, I think you get to know other members better and it is far easier to see the threads and follow them. On Faceache something gets posted then gets lost, as do the replies. Far prefer a forum. However, younger people than me have grown up with the Fac...
