It’s been a while .....
Hello All! It’s been a while but thought I’d check in to see how everyone is? Things have changed for me a bit ..... I’ve been off having twins! Albert and Edith are now 1 years old. As you can imagine I haven’t had a lot of time for gardening. Unfortunately I had to give the allotment up. I had gra...

Re: Happy Birthday.
Thanks everyone! It was a significant one this year so Mr Pawty spoiled me including flights to chile (I'll be on the hunt for unusual veg seeds as always!) Sorry, I've been off line for a while. Just catching up with things - including getting the lotty ready for winter, but still enjoying lots of ...

Re: Chilli and Sweet Pepper
Hi, I use a Nigella recipe. 150 g chillies I50 g red pepper 1 kg jam sugar 600 ml cider vinegar. Deseed chillies and peppers ( although I substitute the pepper for home grown mild chillies or picanti ) and chop finely (or blitz in the food processor), dissolve the sugar in the vinegar. Heat. Add chi...

Re: Chilli and Sweet Pepper
Jeff, Onc you start growing them, you'll be hooked. I start mine off in February. This year I put some (when warm enough) in raised beds at the lotty, kept some in pots in the bedroom window, and some in pots on the patio. All have done well. This is what I picked at the wekkend. I would say I have ...

Re: Saving chilli seeds?
Hi, I grew some of my saved picanti chillies, along with a few seed from a packet I saved. The ones from the packet germinated well, produced large plants and good size fruit which we have been harvested for a while (used as an alternative to peppers). The seed from the saved chillies resulted in ge...

Popcorn?
Hi, So, after all the struggles with growing corn this year - from poor germination, poor growing and then mice getting half my crop, we've finally harvested a few and they were delicious. I'm left with a few slightly tatty ones that I will do something with. Maybe spicy sweetcorn relish. But it got...

Re: DOOMED I tell you, they are all DOOMED
Hi, You're not alone. I spent yesterday removing all of my plants at the allotment. I noticed it on one plant, a few days later all got it - in both parts of the allotment. It was brutal. It took hold so quickly. Luckily I have some supurbs and tigerilla in the back garden which are not affected. So...

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs - 2017.
Hi, Utterly fed up with this weather...... in between down poors theres been just about enough time to gather in courgettes, beans and lift some potatoes. Picking any tomato that's showing any sign of colour. Weeding just isn't happening. But, when I was there last I noticed the dreaded blight on th...

Hi,
The squashes planted around and then over the manure heap are going well - had a peek through the greenery and this is what I found.

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs - 2017.
For the first time this year I dedicated a small area of the plot to flowers for our pollinators. I grew these from seed (zinnia whirlygig mixed) and am amazed at the different colours and petals you get from the same pack. Bees absolutely love them!

Re: Beef Steak tomatoes splitting.
Hi Westi, I have the same problem - also with the tigerella's. Mine are outside. I think it's due to the amount of rain in the last couple of weeks. As the rain doesn't look set to stop I'm taking them off the plant as soon as there is a hint of colour and ripening them off in the kitchen window. Th...
