Re: Site signing me out?

Yes Westie I frequently have this happen and have mentioned it before. It is really annoying when you lose the content of the proposed post. No wonder people seem to give up, I wonder if there is any connection between this matter and the fact we have a small nucleus of regular posters The suggestio...

Re: Raised bed

So did we, Jeff, but ours had a bottom to it! The hot water was heated up on a kitchen coal range and we bathed by the light of oil lamps. WOW !!! you could afford oil for lamps, rich family :D !!!! I had to have a tin bath by the light, by the light, by the light, of the silvery moon. ************...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Just made my first 2018 batch of marmalade, Ikg Seville oranges = 6.75 jars. May be a slightly 'soft' set.
On that basis another 4 batches to go to make a years supply (optimistic or what, lol ).

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Like the pics Geoff. Greenhouse looks brilliant Just a little concerned over your choice of 13amp sockets & plug.
Do you cover them to avoid dampness seepage

Is that a RCB I see on one socket

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

I tried it day before yesterday.

Got arrested

Perhaps stripping off and taking a dirt bath up the plot in the evening wasn't such a good idea.
Was released as they could find little evidence

Now to change plan and turn proposed raised bed into a cubicle

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Monika , despite the destructive nature of the sparrows you paint a fabulous picture in words of the activity taking place. We are currently getting about 30 goldfinches , 2 to 4 thrushes, blue tits. great tits and this year we are even welcoming the starlings given how few there were throughout la...

Re: Next objective

Colin Thanks for your input and thoughts, could not agree more. Damn sure my plot has helped keep me alive since 2015. There's the sense of satisfaction and achievement when harvesting, there's a certain air of tranquillity that means problems seem to disappear for a while at least and there's a gen...

Re: Next objective

The objective will be to replace those beds with taller ones to make it more comfortable for her to work. Given the energy I will make two more beds to match existing ones in that area. each bed will be 4.8mt x 1.2mt x 1mt In other words the new beds will equate to two of this one DSC_063124.jpg I w...

Next objective

Had a look around the plot today as I have yet another urge for more raised beds to benefit my daughter when she takes over the plot. The cost is such that I best get it done as she would be unlikely to afford it. What I was looking for today was the spot where I might dig up some energy. My plan is...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Latter part of last year Mrs S found some Kelsae onion seed online. Most peoples stocks had been wiped out thanks to a storm in Italy which demolished the seed fields Today I have at last found the energy to get down the greenhouse and sow some, The original intention was to sow on Boxing |day. The ...

Re: Chase Organics

JBA are quite expensive by the time they are delivered and when I tried them a few years ago I was unimpressed by the quality. I put my 10 First Earlies in a tunnel bed approximately 10'x4'. I've never understood this crowded bag growing and the limited yield per seed tuber that people seem to thin...

Re: Chase Organics

No idea if you are missing anything or not Colin. 45 spuds in a 4 x 4 space, gro-bags or not, are you sure !!!!!! I merely passed on a site whose seed potatoes came highly recommended Were you calculating for First Early, Second Early or Main I usually plant as follows First Early / Salad spacing 12...
