Hurrah for KG

Julys KG arrived today and just had a flick through in the bath. In it are my two top things on my mind.....soya beans and comfrey. We've tried sowing two lots of the latter and nothing is appearing - very tempted to ask a neighbour for a small clump to get my patch started. Second sowing of soya be...

Re: St George for England. (not really a 'funny')

I certainly always say English - even when forms only have British in the nationality I put other and enter English and it doesn't half annoy me when the english football team wear blue!! I'm worse now I live in the Isle of Man - Manx pride is very evident with many houses having the flag outside. I...

Re: Just a thought

Not carbolic but did put a tiny drop of Fairy washing up liquid in a sprayer of water and spritzed my olive tree (more like a very small bush) last year when it was covered in teeny black flies and sage that was crawling with aphids.

Worked a treat.

Bites, beans and buttocks

Managed to get a long session in at the allotment yesterday after missing out on quality time with my plants last weekend cos I had a mini Lupus flare....ended abruptly when I put my hand in a red ants nest and getting a particularly vicious little b****r stuck in my glove. On the plus side - I did ...

Re: tape or pellets

aaah the slugs are out!!! Did pellets last year as don't have much in pots or raised beds. But didn't really put too much effort into keeping on top of the buggers. Did toy with nematodes (sp?) but couldn't face the expense. A neighboring allotment has tadpoles in a pond - hoping we have some fat fr...

Re: Soya beans

Pants!!!

I wanted to grow them because I love them and you just don't get them in shops over here - along with all legumes and have a rather ridiculous variety.

I'll give the rest of the packet a go and see what happens.

Soya beans

Anyone grown soya beans?

Mine just haven't germinated - had a dug about in a couple of the module trays and the seeds have either disappeared or rotted. Other pea things are happy as larry.

Re: Everything but the squeal?

Give anything a go personally. Sweetbreads yummy yum just fried up in a bit of butter. Find it add that these days you have to order offal in from the butcher. Seriously do not like liver, always thought it was the texture but I had zebra and the taste was similar but with a venison fillet texture. ...

Re: Is there a place for antibiotics on the NHS

ban on antibiotics - I think not and for a very good personal reason. I have Lupus (SLE) which in basic terms means my immune system is OVER active. So if I get an infection my immune system goes bonkers and attacks me.....best case scenario if feeling dreadful, extreem fatigue, severe arthritis lik...

Re: Greedy bunnies

The allotment already has wire which I believe is dug in - but the little beggers still get it. I'm just a bit lazy with netting everything, its such a bind to weed and I'm one of these numpties who seems to get tangled up in it myself. We live in the Isle of Man - no foxes! Hubby also shoots so ver...

Re: Plastic Cold Frames

I've got a brilliant and free [cold frame - take an old door saw it here and there, stick some nails in, then plop a folding glass shower curtain on for the lid (I think thats screwed down at the back). Easy to open and close and its safety glass. Thanks to the local tip and an unusually handy husba...

Re: What do you do to test meat?

I assume the palm test i comparing the meat 'squishyness' to different parts of the hand. If so yes we do...or did got used to knowing what it feels like now. Though as others have said resting is very important. We find the best way for a steak is to flash fry on a high heat then pop the pan in the...
