Re: Glorious Spring Bits and Bobs.

Took a while to get out from a grey start but despite the sometimes strong breeze it as managed 18.6. Herbaceous borders starting to look something like as a result though there are a few bodies left to see if they do make it. Euphorbias in particular seem to have taken a beating. Lots of bumble bee...

Re: Visiting suggestions

Getting withdrawal symptoms, was expecting my fix of train pictures, not to say some Yorkshire countryside as well. As you probably know, some of the polytunnels in the countryside are actually lambing enclosures.

Re: Visiting suggestions

The M6 Staffordshire / Cheshire is a disaster, we have relations in Shropshire who always use the A49 instead. Glad I've retired and no longer have to regularly visit Thame in Oxfordshire by that route. Not looking forward to my drive to Eastbourne planned for June. Couldn't have advised on hotels, ...

Re: 2018 growing season

Got one of the big Spring tasks completed today - 88 Sweet Peas, 4 each of 22 varieties. Also planted out Broad Beans and hoping to do the onion family that I've grown from seed later.

Re: Spread Sheet

My wife complains I have a spreadsheet for everything but, like my veg, they are all homegrown. I use a combination of a spreadsheet, which is a stock list of my seeds (it also has 'no stock' items so I can see what I have grown in the past) with sowing week numbers that I have refined over the year...

Re: Visiting suggestions

There used to be an award winning pork pie shop, probably not as dietary correct as they used to be.

Re: Broadforks

Glad to hear it! I wasn't trying to say I was unique but I have seen people dig along a row throwing forward and I couldn't understand how fork digging could be any easier. I usually weed first but I do stone pick as I dig.

You shouldn't have done that! You've made me build a cloche and plant 18 Brassicas in it.

Re: Broadforks

it takes the strain off your back when turning the soil they do make digging a lot easier if the ground is wetter The reason we started discussing what appears to be a silly implement for the job described is the idea that fork digging in wet ground is easier than spade digging. I don't understand ...

Re: (Delayed) Spring 2018

What a difference a week makes! Last Monday snow, sleet and rain all day, today a lovely day with lots sunshine and buzzing bees. Brought out all sorts, three Swallows and my farming friend delivered a trailer load of muck. Thought I was going to miss out as lambing has started, fruit cage mulched a...
