Tomato strainer for tomato puree

Can anyone help. A couple of years ago (or so it feels) there was an offer in KG for a gadet that looked like an old fashioned mincer - you put tomatoes in the top, minced, and pulp went one way, skins the other. It was red Does anyone know what I am on about? Was it any good and where can you get t...

Rhubarb - thickness of stems

I cannot recall the varieties and since the RHS has taken out the collection of rhubarb plants at Harlow Carr, I don't have a visual check. There is a nagging thought in my head that there are a few cultivars that produce thin stems, but their names escape me. So - are the crowns from the same parent?

Compost

My experience has been that you need a fiberous, coarse peat / coir to make a plug at the base. JI compost seems to wash out, so I put the coir at the bottom and JI on top. If the compost is falling off, I would suggst that you are trying to move them too soon - the roots have nove developed enough ...

tahnks - you are welcome. Hope you have some luck in tracking them down. you will be growing parsnips in them. Looking back at April 2000 KG sowed parnips in roottrainers in May to plug the gaps left by erratic germinating parsnips.

De Milpa Purple Tomatoes

The De Milpa I know is a Tomatillo - Physalis ixocarpa 'Purple de Milpa'

Also known as Husk Tomato 'Purple de Milpa'

I have seen these grown as bush style rather than cordons. Height around 5ft

Not something I have experience of, admittedly.

PICKLED GREEN TOMATOES

Made these several years ago - from the Perfect Pickle book that accompanied the 1980's BBC program of the same name. The final pickle liquid is dark, spicy, sweet yet with a vinegary bite. Offered one on a cocktail stick to my sister. - shut your eyes and try this - Ever trusting of her big brother...

"Proper seed" or import-it-yourself??

Seed sold in the UK and in EU member states are supposed to conform to standard regulations. This basically means that the seed has been checked to see that it will germinate to a specified percentage. Much of the seed sold in the UK isn't from plants grown in the UK but from the other side of the w...
