Re: Benefit of composting.
Dear NB, I am afraid not - not enough detail here . (don't get me wrong, I probably need something in the middle!) . It reminds me of one of our governor training session powerpoint presentations which are fine as bullet points when you have the speaker there, going through the discussion, but rathe...

Re: Peat & methane
Thank you, that is very useful and I understand what he was saying now.
I do apologise for starting a new thread, , I had thought I was just replying to the peat thread so I was a bit confused just now when I saw the thread had moved on without my comment.

Peat & methane
Sorry, no new facts to bring , but can anyone explain what this means from the Steve Yandell article:
I have no agenda here - I simply don't understand the processes/mechanics .
Thank you,
Elle
Simply that the restoration of UK bogs is likely to increase the World's methane load,

Dear Goldilox, my sincere condolences, what an awful winter you have had. I am sure you are mightily glad to be home, and hope that taming the garden helps the healing.

Re: Bird numbers
Have any of you got many greenfinches? We haven't had any in our garden for a few years now since some awful virus or bug wiped out significant numbers. Before that we had many greenfinch visitors.

That all sounds magnificent CJS, and a great use of all the bits you found in my opinion. I sincerely hope all your seeds grow and you have a wonderful growing season in those beds! Keep well and don't overdo it!

Re: "Good for the environment" - but not so good for you!
However for each of us probably not too badly, this is "traces" and you probably breathe in ten years worth of similar chemicals from painting your woodwork indoors or having a new carpet fitted. No mention of how much you'd absorb from handling the original printed paper or cardboard. Ye...

Re: A New Pathogen
Dear NB,
When you say 'This is not new' are you referring to the fact that animals are aborting etc and the suspected GM implication, rather than linking the actual suspected cause i.e. BT or Glysophate as cited by the articles?

Re: "Good for the environment" - but not so good for you!
Because exterior packaging like a cornflake box does not actually touch the food, as it is contained within a heat sealed plastic bag the cardboard is not touching the food. Both the contents of Arborio rice (Sainsburys) and salt (Tidmans?) that I buy are directly in the cardboard box with no inner...
