Cauliflowers

We have grown some beautiful cauliflowers this year and have a feeling the seed was a freeby with the magazine. If this is so can anyone tell us what variety they were please?

Re: Grafted tomatoes

We were given 3 grafted tomatoes as a present. I'm not sure what variety they were except that they were Japenese. They grow to over 6" tall but the tomatoes are similar in size and shape to strawberries, fairly sparse on the trusses and are not a patch on Shirley, grown from seed, on the allot...

Re: Runner Beans

A friend of mine asked her husband to pick the runners whilst she was away looking after her mother. He picked them and dumped them in the freezer.. Once they are defrosted they will be very difficult to string and slice. You can get away without blanching if the beans will be used fairly soon but d...

Leeches

The watertrough was very low and one of our allotmenteers found about 20-30 leeches clinging to her can. As far as I can find out they are not really a problem but does anyone know how they get in the tank in the first place?

Curling leaf on blackcurrants

My husband has just popped in, thrust a Hessayon fruit book at me and said 'Find out what I need for curling leaf on my blackcurrants' and disappeared off to the allotment. I assume he's looked underneath the leaves but can't be sure. I can't find any mention of curling leaves either in Hessayon or ...

Re: What a waste!

Young drivers, under 21 or whatever age you settle on, should not be allowed to carry passengers for the first year after passing their test. So often these youngsters are just showing off to their mates.

Re: Mini greenhouse covers

Thanks for that, Urban Fox. There is a Wilkinsons at Basingstoke, about 12-13 miles away, so no problem to pick up.

Tomatoes

A freeby packet of tomatoes resulted in almost 100% germination. I thought I'd try a couple of plants restricted to one truss to see if they are ready quicker. Anyone tried this and does it work?

Mini greenhouse covers

Can anyone recommend a supplier for replacement covers please? We need three 4 tier covers 69cm wide and one 4 tier 90 cm wide. Found one with 69cm on offer for £7 but there was £4.99 postage, presumably that's on each one. Thanks

White fly

My compost bin is full of small white flies. Should I spray them or are they part of the process?

Re: Cure for carrot fly!

Gracie - hope you pick this up as it is some time since the last post. My hiusband spent some time searching through back numbers of Kitchen Garden for the info on carrot fly. Although he has been a subscriber for several years this is the first time I've visited the forum. Could you give me some id...
