Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Well despite the weather reports the annual food festival in town proceeded without rain for the 3 days. Neighbour said it was so pricey this year; she gave her niece £20 thinking she will get something it eat & drink plus some little trinket or whatever but chicken & chips was £15! One wing...

Re: Grow Your Own Drugs
I totally agree Primrose & a lot of their drugs were originally noted being used by wildlife. I strongly suspect there is a lot of nature's remedies being lost due to the demise of the jungles with all the land clearing & burning. The cure for cancer could be amongst these, but with the habi...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
All plants planted where they should be today! Did my usual half plants, half seed for the runners - they all catch up eventually if not found by critters, but get an earlier small harvest from the plants. Quite surprised that my Queensland Blue immediately sulked a few hours after planting out but ...

Re: Beefsteak Tomatoes
For the love of me at this time I can't remember the name, but the best one I have had is from Seeds of Italy. It doesn't get too tall, but deffo tall'ish, & the stem seems to thicken up rather than throw off side shoots at every joint. There are still shoots but don't seem to affect the harvest...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
No plot today but with bits & bobs being harvested I prepped a few things for the freezer, mainly prepared dishes to just grab out for those days that I really can't be bothered. My last bag of last years runners in the freezer is just begging to be used, but Father's Day is coming up so they wi...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Well the weather played fair today & it was quite nice, a bit of a nip early on but quickly warmed, but just made double figures. Quite a productive day, all structures now up, sweet corn in & I will be planting more out on next visit. I weeded & did a re-jig of the cover on my Leeks, I'...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Ditto here OH, but it was passing heavy showers so did have some breaks in-between but deffo no sun or a plot day. Very weirdly the weather said showers until 7pm & a few minutes ago the sun came out? Would be great if all forecasts were that accurate! All OK tomorrow so can get on with the jobs...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
A review of my runner canes following the transfer of stuff to the Beach Hut, showed they were pretty dodgy & would probably snap if a big wind. Last night I put an SOS out to the trading hut on our FB site to see if they had any left & they did & even opened just for me to get some. The...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Hi retropants! It seems an awful lot of people are having trouble with disappearing carrots judging by my flicking through groups on FB & my own experience. I had 2 sows appear but disappear so I dug out all the soil & I found a few slimy things but not enough to explain total eradication. S...

Re: Earthworms
Blimey who'd have known there was a society or a site! Hopefully they will have a 'contact us' page so you can get a definitive idea of what it is. There are so many bad things finding their way to the UK like the Asian Hornet & the New Zealand flatworm, no worry to us but the Hornet wipes out t...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Well the little shed arrived on the plot today, all built including the floor. To say I was excited was an understatement. Well they say 3 times lucky & I was lucky as the supplier could not be bothered to collect the wrong items, although they did debate a fair bit initially but I had all the p...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Seeing my neighbour is coming down with the shed tomorrow & there will be excess chatter & time taken I am going to catch the first bus down to at least get some bits done before he comes down. I don't understand why Mr was laughing it's only 05.25....well firstly it will be grumpy me in the...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Good turns can backfire indeed. My plot neighbour was to take my little shed down to the plot so I could put it together with his help as needed, however he decided to surprise me & thought he would put it together at his house & take it down constructed so just needing securing it to the co...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
No rain today down on the plots, in fact very still, warm & quiet, probs no more than 20 of us down & not one strimmer in action! Did all the re-sows needed, so next step is structures. I was once again in awe of seeds; sown, nearly drowned, got cold, hunkered down & still enough energy ...

Re: A mindful moment
Brilliant Burnie! Absolutely love anything to do sitting & listening to the waves, so calming. I'm very close to the beach but I like it way more during storms when the tourists have disappeared into the pub! Us locals have a special spot further down where the River Avon & Stour totally mer...
