Re: Bulbs in cardboard tubes

Welcome to the forum Pebbles!

I can't see any reason why not as you are just looking to see if they are viable & it will save space, give them a good depth of root run & if they grow they will be easy to transplant without too much disturbance.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Well I continued with the weeding, but had to do more re-sows as well. I think waiting 2 weeks for the lettuce was long enough, but the Swedes, Kohl & Celeriac are up on their 3rd sow. I think I will be in contact with the dairy farmer end of year & get some more manure delivered as I don't ...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Plan was basically to veg out today, but got the itch! Little front lawn mowed & beds weeded; some things removed to make room for the more impressive flowers to be. Then went a bit mad & weeded the path between ours & the neighbours; just my side as it is really hard work as the bitumen...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Nice day here as well! The weeds have had a great time with the rain/sun/rain/sun & scarpered my plan to just hoe as well established & quite a few naughty ones spotted so Japanese knife was the chosen tool. Finished the back strawberries, raspberries & one Asparagus bed. I could have do...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Well tomorrow is 1st June OH, just a reminder? ;) Mind that does depend on whether meteorological summer, but not to the 21st for astronomical summer. Nice & quiet on the plot & I did not get too distracted with my chores & stuck to the back of the plot & might have got lucky. Carrot...

Your positive attitude is also contributing to keeping you going Burnie, makes a great difference in recovery. I have seen this before where they will knock you out, sometimes it is related to the previous treatments as they may have to take longer due to scar tissue from the previous treatments whi...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

I decided to go to the supermarket on opening to get it over & done with & home before more consistent rain started, & timing was good as it was really raining by the time I left so I had to get a taxi home. (Didn't want my chocolate eclair to get wet)! ;) I have never been there for ope...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Sweet potatoes in successfully & did a few other bits in the tunnel, I had to cut back the water cress which is going crazy & most in flower with lots of pods & it really knows how to spread if you don't keep on top of it. I also gave everything in there a good water as had to get the ho...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Well as per Sod's law it rained all last night & the most of today so no plot nor home gardening. Fortunately looking good for tomorrow & all the weather reports agree 0% precipitation until the afternoon. Rain's stopped now, so time for it to dry out a bit so as well as planting out the swe...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Well despite the weather reports the annual food festival in town proceeded without rain for the 3 days. Neighbour said it was so pricey this year; she gave her niece £20 thinking she will get something it eat & drink plus some little trinket or whatever but chicken & chips was £15! One wing...

Re: Grow Your Own Drugs

I totally agree Primrose & a lot of their drugs were originally noted being used by wildlife. I strongly suspect there is a lot of nature's remedies being lost due to the demise of the jungles with all the land clearing & burning. The cure for cancer could be amongst these, but with the habi...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

All plants planted where they should be today! Did my usual half plants, half seed for the runners - they all catch up eventually if not found by critters, but get an earlier small harvest from the plants. Quite surprised that my Queensland Blue immediately sulked a few hours after planting out but ...

Re: Beefsteak Tomatoes

For the love of me at this time I can't remember the name, but the best one I have had is from Seeds of Italy. It doesn't get too tall, but deffo tall'ish, & the stem seems to thicken up rather than throw off side shoots at every joint. There are still shoots but don't seem to affect the harvest...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

No plot today but with bits & bobs being harvested I prepped a few things for the freezer, mainly prepared dishes to just grab out for those days that I really can't be bothered. My last bag of last years runners in the freezer is just begging to be used, but Father's Day is coming up so they wi...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Well the weather played fair today & it was quite nice, a bit of a nip early on but quickly warmed, but just made double figures. Quite a productive day, all structures now up, sweet corn in & I will be planting more out on next visit. I weeded & did a re-jig of the cover on my Leeks, I'...
