Site signing me out?

I've come on here as per norm, but last few nights & I'm half way through posting & suddenly I have to sign in again, despite ticking the remember me box. Now I don't mind signing in again, but what is aggravating is my post vanishes as well - not just on the main forum but on PM's. Anyone e...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Weather not looking too promising for this week so glad I got a few bits done on lottie. Absolutely enjoyed scrapping the canker off the apple trees & painting on the heal & seal stuff. Didn't get every bit of it but those areas in reach were pretty much covered, the chief source of this can...

Re: 2018 growing season

My onion seeds are similar in size to yours, maybe a tiny bit bigger, I started mine off on the 27th but they are not having any heat but are in the propagator to stop the cat showing too much interest.

Re: 2018 growing season

I grew Crimson Crush a few years back when it came out first - it got blight! But I also harvested some nice tasty toms before then. Not big but not a cherry more a small salad type. I won't grow them again though as doing better with beefsteak types in the greenhouse, but for same size, taste &...

Re: Sunflowers as a structural item on the plot, more than just pretty flowers ?

Oh! That mention of your deep loose bed is going to be a challenge, & even a football sized root ball could move in that with a bit of a blow. I don't know much about sunflowers (read nothing), but are they one of those plants you can put in deeper & they will root off the stem?

Re: Sunflowers as a structural item on the plot, more than just pretty flowers ?

Welcome no-akira! If you've got the room give it a go - with some canes supports for the sunflowers as a back up. The native Americans were pretty handy but although times change & likely the sunflower varieties it might be doable with current props to help. Maybe cross research to find older va...

Re: Decision made!

Hi Colin!
It's is a wee way off yet! Too much to do just clearing & stuff due to the wonderful weather limiting the visits to the plot. Think I have a site though but have to dig a fair few migrating raspberries first. Hope they don't put the price up while I procrastinate & work my butt off!

Re: Chickens

I'd love to have some chooks but don't have the time to invest just yet in keeping them happy & a bit put off by the rats. Is not an egg an egg regardless of the colour of shell & anyway they have decided eggs are good for you - well for this month anyway! ;)

Re: Decision made!

Hi Colin! I haven't actually got it but it is an assured Xmas present when I decide the size & where it is going to go. It's hard deciding due to the brassica rotation and the onion sets being in - & my measuring for my central path when I took on the allotment was not too clever either as o...

Re: Raised bed

Blimey never heard of it, but what a bargain ! Maybe a herb bed, not too deep so limited - salad leaves as well spring to mind.

Re: More moles stories.

I tried those bulbs things advertised as well a few years back & thought rubbish! But on reflection had less moles after that then I have now - but weather different then than now as well! A decent summer to keep the worms lower might
solve the problem temporarily!

Re: Lawn help needed.

Hey Robo!

Thanks for the offer & know I live near the beach but that would challenge the amount of sand needed to fill a 10' hole every few feet as well! :) :)

Re: Lawn help needed.

Hi rowbow!

I was considering a crowbar to make bigger holes as fork tines are too shallow, but I'm going to need an awful lot of sharp sand. My final solution is to get the professionals in to sort it in the spring - or probably should say when it ever stops raining - will that be spring??? :)
