Re: Sign of the Times.

Funnily our post office has moved back into the High St. They closed up about 2 yrs ago & everything was out of the main sorting office about 11/2 miles away & on a one an hour bus route, then we noted a long vacated shop in the square being refurbed & Post Office is back. They must feel...

Re: Moving Shallots!

It crossed my mind as well OH that they may get stressed out, but at least they aren't expensive to buy & I can still use them if I catch them before the stalk gets too big.

Re: Moving Shallots!

Definitely following Primrose's advice and I have moved them. They had pretty good top growth but the roots fitted in a trowel full of soil so easy to move. I gave them a special prepared bed I had planned for something else - hope it's not too rich, but maybe potential for lottie show winners, but ...

I'm trying Picasso this year too. Can't help you with where to get them though, as they were part of my order at the allotment shop.

Moving Shallots!

I have been measuring up to site my new net tunnel for my brassica's. The only space I have in the rotation is an empty bed toward the front of the plot but the bed behind has my overwintered shallot sets & I need this space as well for the size I need. They went in about November, and have alre...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Managed to get down and also managed to finish the raspberry beds - in between sleet & hail showers. Twas pretty nippy though & I couldn't feel my feet, especially after treading in a big puddle. The raspberries were pretty ungrateful actually so they may not get such care & attention ag...

Re: Postage & Packing aka Delivery Charges

Hi Pa! Yep been stung by that new lot of rules a few years back. I used to be able to buy seeds from Australia, but they have set similar rules about their exports so even proper seeds in foil backs & branded firms can no longer be exported out of Australia as want to protect their varieties - s...

Re: Postage & Packing aka Delivery Charges

Blimey Colin - where did you find seeds from Serbia? I am generally happy with wherever they come from but my French garlic that came from China was rubbish. (Amazon) Got a cute little charm though that as it happens turned out better than the garlic as people notice it & comment & I'm prett...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Great news Robo! It is really amazing what they can do & what they will do! Lucky us having the NHS & one that doesn't discriminate but gets in there & sorts the problems. I hope your wife is on the mend soon & like you say, life is precious & even with physical changes should be...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2018

Turned out nice on lottie today, nippy but sunny. Finally got the raspberry beds weeded which was a challenge getting weeds out between the stems. Was hoping to cut down the autumn fruiting but didn't have the time, but I did manage to dig up some stragglers and re-locate them into the gaps. I've go...

Re: Slug free spuds.

You could set up a drip system - it needed be the expensive ones on timers, just the one that you fill the bag and hook it up behind them. You still have the control of the drip flow and could set one to water a couple of bags, they hold quite a bit, about 2 cans full if not a bit more, need secure ...

Re: 2018 growing season

Sounds lovely PP! What are your pumpkins like? I'm growing the white Polar Bear one this year but looking longingly at my Chicago Warted seeds I got from the states, but we just aren't getting the heat during the summer to make them worth the land the last couple of years. We had a mango tree at eve...

Re: Rat release allowed

Hi Diane I was fine with that thinking that's a good idea - then I clicked a bit more & saw the price - EEK! I wonder if the committee would be interested in investing though? Everyone complains about the rats & most chicken owners practice good hygiene & those that don't are pretty swif...
