Hi, Lovely thought! My son broke up for the school holidays last Friday and we sent in boxes of seasonal fruit and veg plus some herbs in pots and half a dozen eggs from his and his Nan's free range hens for both his teacher and the teaching assistant. A bit more tricky at Christmas but with luck yo...

Sorry, didn't make myself clear (nothing new there then!) I have a U-shaped raised bed with a path down the middle, cucumbers one side and melons on the other, it's the bottom of the U that is empty and begging for plants. I too have a chair to sit and drink tea :)

Humid greenhouse

Hi folks, Got a dilemma. I'm lucky to have a 6 by 8 greenhouse to dedicate to cucumbers and melons. I have 8 cucumber plants down one side and 7 melon plants down the other. In between there is a 3 x 2ft gap begging to be planted with something. The general advice seems to be that aubergines enjoy s...

Thanks for all your responses and support folks. I am happy to report considerable regrowth of foliage. I know it will need pruning now but having come so close to losing it, I am reluctant to lose any of it! It has lost it's wine glass shape so I guess I will have to be brave and get in there with ...

Ddiolch 'ch achos 'r bostio Alan. Hope that's translated! I should have persisted in my research but the plants were bursting out of the pots and my OH was pushing for a decision on what to plant where. It's a small block so I'm hoping to be able to access from all sides. Or it maybe another one of ...

I couldn't find any specific planting advice so I have planted them very close. My reasoning was that the beans need to be planted as close to the sweetcorn as you would plant them next to canes so they could use the sweetcorn as support. It seemed like a good idea to plant the courgette/marrow/pumk...

Hi,

I'm trying the three sisters planting plan this year for the first time. I have sweetcorn, french climbing beans and either courgette, marrow or pumpkin planted together. All going well so far. Will report back.

Lemon tree

Hi folks, The in-laws bought me lemon tree for Christmas, but despite being in a frost free greenhouse and being covered in fleece and surrounded by a sort of bubble wrap tent, the leaves slowly died starting with the new soft leaves then the older ones turning dry and brown the dropping off. I trie...

Rhubarb recipes

Hi folks, Just thought I’d share these rhubarb recipes with you. First, I can’t claim them as my own as I got the original recipes from Tesco food club but I have adapted them to suit my own tastes, sensitivities (lactose) and budget. Butter or margarine can be directly substituted for the spreads. ...

Thanks folks. It was a bit of a long shot. I have two baskets with alpine strawberries in so I might try a mixture of lettuces. I was planning to keep a succession going both on the plot and undercover anyway so that will just be an alternative. I guess I could bring them in when it's really cold. H...

I find wet hands or rubber gloves effective. I always miss with dry hands or gloves but have more success when they're wet.

Hanging winter edibles

I have just emptied tumbling tomatoes and nasturtiums from some hanging baskets and was wondering if there is anything edible I could plant in them over winter?
