Re: Keeping our cool

Mmmm just this week had a look at this forum again. I used to contribute regularly. (from 2001) The main reason I stopped was because of a few regular posters who were rather kneejerk in their reactions to certain topics and the way they denigated others (viewpoints)/ranted/started posts purposely t...

Re: Thinking of starting a mini-orchard...

Hello. Quick site visit from an old member! I prune (and plant/care for) Apple and other fruit trees for a living - gardens and Orchards. up to a thousand each year. Do more research about varieties and rootstocks! Otherwise you are in for disappointment! The trees will get too big/may be unsuitable...

Hi Anne. If your paths are relatively flat and even, an Austrian style Scythe is the quickest thing other than a lawnmower. It's a pleasure to use and can handle long grass much quicker than a strimmer (without the racket and smell too). Can also be used for cutting nettles and weeds and even light ...

Lez - if you follow the link it gets you to the suppliers website - you need to phone them or email to get a price. I've just seen an advert this week by Agralan (the original suppliers of 'Enviromesh') for their new product called 'Envirotect' - it looks just like cosytex in the photo. I expect tha...

Hi Primrose

I generally sow my toms in early march, but nearly always regret doing it so early! The plants are generally a little leggy by the time I get them all planted - I usually do 200 plus in a polytunnel - we don't do any outdoors as blight gets them to quickly.

Gill and Alan Thanks for that one - I'd not heard of it called that before - down here it's known as a 'Beggars Banquet' or a 'Pot Luck' - which I guess, are more self-explanatory terms.

Comfrey? - cover with mypex, and plant comfrey root cuttings through it at 2' intervals - burn a 6"hole with a blow torch at each planting point. keep cutting any brambles till they give up ( about 5 years in my experience!).

Hi Thanks OH - I think that most of the customers realise what it's all about - some of them volunteer regularly in exchange for veg. It is a lot of work for Ruth. There is lots of weekend work for us both if we can face it/fit it in with other things. The Village Fayre was half as busy as last year...

This week we are ...

Some of you may know that hat my partner is a full time grower, and produces a weekly ('pragmatic'!) veg box for between 55 and 60 households, and supplies a greengrocer and restaurant. I am her part time helper! Currently we are regularly picking: Salads: Mizuna, Pak Choi, Rocket, Red Mustard and L...

All is well again

Thanks KG Admin

Sorry about the panic -

It was slightly tongue in cheek - caused by paranoia generated by losing subza, quickly followed by my being banned to send messages to KG via the contact link.

Jason informs me it was an anti spam problem.

And many folks didn't move from subza then, because then, as now, they didn't like wimpole.....

The main problem I have with wimpole is that the index page is in 2 columns - no other forum which I use does this so why does KG want it - it's busy and harder/slower to navigate. Unnecessary.

Repression of dissent

I have just tried to send an email to the 'contact' address of this site. This is what I wrote: Thanks for the forum - I have been using it longer than you - i.e since 2001 - it's great But... Why no more subza? This other format is harder to use due to it's layout, - keep it simple. Surely, a compr...
