Beryl There is another type of pond repair product which comes in 2 tubes like Araldite. It makes a kind of putty which can be pushed into cracks and spread over the top. It works in wet conditions too. I can't remember it's name offhand, but costs about a fiver. Pond seal is ok, but I find that it ...

Allan

I have always used 50:1 for glyphosate at 360g/l - This was got from the instructions on a 5l container of Roundup years ago. I usually get Glyphogan or Gallup (same concentration of glyphosate but not made by Monsanto) from the local Agrichem supplier - £18 for 5l.

Hi OH I get similar problems myself... Off the top of my head: what about filling your tyre with builders expanding foam? It might be a really silly idea, but might just do the job. Obviously care need to be taken... might even try it myself if you don't. You would need a vent for the air which is d...

It's too early for Discovery Primrose - as pointed out by others - Mid August is usual for picking here.

Skip If you want to grow the vine to a reasonable size, then you should get a pot which is 30l or larger. Use John Innes 3 soil based compost. You will need to irrigate regularly, and top dress each year, possibly liquid feeding when it has become a large plant. I would go for drip irrigation on a t...

I do charge £10/h or less to a couple of old family friends for quite physically demanding work, also barter for future favours with friends.

Jenny our home garden is about 1/6 acre, there are thick hedges on the sides that matter and a field between us and the road! Sadly due to pressure of time and veg growing at the fields, only propagation and lawn mowing/hedgetrimming goes on here now, even just 5 years ago it was like Tom and Barber...

Another thought... £13/h 8hours paid work a day, 5 days a week, allowing total of 45 weeks a year owing to bad weather/21 days holidays = £23400 pa before tax. Isn't that about the average national wage? I don't earn that btw, as I grow veg (v. low profit!) and share childcare with my partner Mole

Showa gloves

Having looked at the websites described in another thread, I can't help thinking that these gloves look remarkably like the type which builders (and gardeners) use, which are available from ebay or builders merchants for a third of the price..... Garden Centres/Harrod Horticultural/Organic Gardening...

Lizzie Sounds like spurge to me too. Be aware that it will scar for years - leaving brown patches. Rue is very similar in effect - I have had both in the past. Also, daffodill juice does it to me. Sunlight is needed for the worst effect. Some years back I was crouching, weeding in the buff at home a...

Hi Alan You may be behind the times We live in a low wage area compared to the cost of living and housing market. It depends on what a gardener can do - how knowledgeable is he/she, does he supply own tools -especially powered tools/fuel. They should have public liability insurance, and also employe...

Hi John I swear by Bahco (were Sandvik) loppers and shears. They are in the medium price range, but the quality is very good and spares are available. The designs are simple and well built using decent steel for the blades. Wolf are ok if you get the higher end models (not telesopic though). BTW anv...
