Absolutely glorious day here. Wall to wall sunshine this morning and now just a few fluffy white clouds. Snowdrops and crocus looking lovely, tete a tete daffs just starting to open.
I am officially out of hibernation

Re: Very sad news
That really is very sad Catherine. Depression can be a dreadful illness and it isn't always treated with the seriousness it deserves.
I do hope that you can continue to remember happier times and don't upset yourself too much.
I feel for you,
Jude.

Chicken & leek pie
Not my recipe, all credit to Nigel Slater though, (check out BBC food). Used my 2 best leeks and tested this out in my new cooker. Delicious and loads left for eating cold. Almost followed recipe to the letter (unusual for me!), did add a crumbled chicken stock cube to the filling.

Got it sorted, all by myself too! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Re: Bonfire night fundraising & teeth.
Can empathize with the tooth thing,Peter, I had a large multi-rooted molar removed last Friday (under sedation, thank goodness). Unfortunately it's got infected so now I'm on Metronidazole for 5 days, no alcohol until 48hrs after the course is finished. It's my 60th birthday on the 7th. NOT FAIR!!!

Richard and Westi, very much with both of you there! Soooo much wanting to retire, 60 this year but still another 2 and a half to go before state pension pays more than my part-time job. Only other pension will pay diddly-squat. There was a downside to having a child at 45! Still, she keeps me young...

Re: Take a day off work to garden ? -
Gardening is work, of course, but it can be so therapeutic. I had a day off last week with a heavy cold, felt rotten and didn't want to pass it on to my elderly clients. Pottered over to my plot with the dog, 'just for a look'. 2 hours and a bit of tidying up later I felt great!!

Re: Supermarket Con !
I've been shopping at A---- for the past 20 or so years. The quality has improved greatly over that time and I reckon it is up to 50% cheaper on the basic items. Also, what you see is what you get. Occasional disappointments, but generally fantastic value for money and absolutely no quibble refund/r...
