Re: Red Sproyting Broccoli
Johnboy, a few years ago you gave us a list of varieties and their times of harvest. From my notes: Rudolph....late Sept-Xmas-Jan. (these times reflect staggered sowings.) Red Spear....Mid Jan-Mid Feb. Red Arrow....Mid Feb-Mid Mar. Early PS....March. Cardinal....Mid Mar.-Mid April. Late PS....April-...

Joys of Spring, Scottish style!
Early Spring- about this time- I was walking up a village street with a friend who's a native of the place. Approaching us we see the notoriously greetin-faced Duncan. "'Mornin', Duncan!" says my friend. "It's a fine mornin'" "Whit!" grunts Duncan, "It's cauld enou...

Seeds online from Alan Romans Seeds.
To many this'll not be news. However, I feel compelled to record the following. Seeds I ordered online from Alan Romans Seeds cost 0.50p per packet (a few were 0.80p). Ordered on Tuesday, arrived on Thursday. Received by email 1.receipt 2. notification of dispatch, with tracker number. Hard to fault...

We too pull the ragwort by hand in the numerous corners the spray can't reach. Some job! But for years I thought it odd that none ever appeared in the goats' field...until I examined the turf closely one summer. All the plants were grazed to the ground. There's far more grass in the field than three...

Root nasties.
Last time I grew veg.-back when the world was young- there seemed to be umpteen things you could mix with your soil to ensure the demise of such as cutworms, eelworms, leatherjackets. Yesterday I visited my local Klondyke garden centre to buy such, only to be told that nothing now exists to take the...

Good places to buy pots.
Hello,
Can anyone suggest a good source for pots, multi-pot trays, etc.?
Iain.

Is it not a fairly common human trait to want to personalise your possessions with a name? Stop me if I've told you this before but... I was once involved in a raft race on the river Forth, for charity. You made your own raft and two of you crewed it. There they were at the start all with their name...

I think things like this encourage superficiality at the expense of passion and a respect for hard-earned knowledge. There's no modesty in it, no regard for the wonder inherent in the subject. That's what gets me. Maybe if we watch the whole series we'll find ourselves qualified for a degree in Vegg...
